About Me
Who Is Mónica?
I'm Mónica, a Chartered Linguist, translator, editor, responsible tourism consultant, corporate Spanish specialist, and creator of the Spanish Homestay Immersion Programme (SHIP).
For more than two decades, I've worked with professionals, companies, international learners, and cultural organisations, helping them communicate with confidence and understand Spain beyond the surface.
SHIP brings together language, culture, travel, and real-life communication by letting students and professionals live and study Spanish in their teacher's home in Spain. It isn't just a course; it's a full cultural and linguistic immersion experience.
Having also lived and worked in the UK for many years, I support selected professionals with Business English too, covering international communication, meetings, relocation, and cross-cultural work, in Spain, the UK, the US, and beyond.

From Menorca to the world
I grew up in Menorca, surrounded by the island's traditions, landscapes, languages, and Mediterranean way of life. I later studied in Barcelona before moving to London, where I continued my studies, lived, and worked for many years.
This personal and professional journey has shaped not only the way I work today, but the person I am today. I understand Spain, the UK, and international business environments from the inside, and I know how language, culture, and communication styles can shift from one country to another.
As a native speaker of Spanish and Catalan, with near-native English and conversational French, I've always experienced language as something that connects worlds rather than separates them.

My qualifications and memberships
My academic background includes an MA in Applied Linguistics in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, an MA in Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, postgraduate diplomas in both Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and in Translation and Subtitling, and a BA in International Travel and Tourism Management.
I'm a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain, the Institute of Travel & Tourism, and the Association for the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language, and my responsible tourism work is aligned with GSTC principles.
